About us

Mean Fish Design, est. 2001, runs a small design studio from Canberra, Australia. We produce hand made unique, boutique giftware and specialise in custom work for decorating children’s bedrooms including
name plaques and initials.

We are commissioned to create specialty pieces for our client’s homes, or, for their loved ones based on a theme within their home, beloved sporting club, existing collection or favorite thing. The works are hand painted onto a timber backing and have a resin coating which lifts the vibrancy of the paint and has the effect of glass or a high gloss tile. The pieces are often quirky or whimsical, are sturdy and ship well. Our clock movements come with a 12 month guarantee. The back of each piece is finished with a black paint and can be written on with a paint pen if you wish to include a special message when giving items as a gift.

Production turnaround for custom orders is expected to be approximately 4-6 weeks depending on the time of year, however when the need arises we can produce within a fortnight if the order is very urgent (please allow for travel time). This must be confirmed with the owners/artists prior to work starting.

Custom work can be as simple as choosing the colour or style of a stock item, alternatively you may like to design a specialised piece to suit the colours in your décor or to fit a specific or hard to fill space within the home or office. We have created many commercial pieces, including the reproduction of business logos as well as large foyer pieces. We have provided a link to the istock website which houses an enormous catalogue of images if inspiration is required when considering/designing your own custom piece.

All work is of the highest standard and we have a strict quality assurance program. Keep in mind though that these are hand made products each with their own small unique flaws, these are unavoidable and, if nothing else, add to the products charm. If you are unhappy with our work for any reason please let us know immediately so that we may rectify the problem. We are only too happy to ensure that you are happy with your purchase.
